But why Romania?!
But, why Romania? Obviously, my mother was not very happy about my ESC project destination. Not to mention, that she was sceptical about the whole idea of me leaving Poland for a year and not enrolling for masters degree.
But first things first. I finished bachelors in microbiology and biology teaching. After three years of my studies I realized i enjoy teaching way much more, than working in a lab. So, in my head popped an idea. Why not trying out real-life teaching experience before making big life decisions and quitting my professional path. This is how I registered in European Solidarity Corps site. Today, I know it was a good decision.
Now, after my basic and boring introduction, once again... Why Romania?
Well, to be honest there was no specific reason. I didn't have any superstitions about the coutry, what is common in Poland, and in reality Romania is a country as every other. Of course it has it's flaws, but no country is perfect, is it? When i got a project description from Nevo Parudimos, I applied, because why not. There was no big science behind the process. It went smooth and few weeks later i was here.
The journey itself... It's another story. It took me roughly 21 hours to arrive in Timisoara, where I came at 5 a.m. And as before i was identifying with the quote "I don't remember the last time i saw 7 a.m.", that day it happened. Not because i didn't want to sleep in a car they picked me up with, it's not that. I just really had to pee, but i was ashamed to tell. At some point though, Cosmin, the driver, stopped the car in a field of corn and i saw my salvation, but still stayed quiet until he came back from his little trip. Finally, the urge took over the shyness and the best feeling in the world (when you finally pee after hours of holding) came.
When we arrived in Resita, I passed out... Well after literally five minutes of introduction from my new flatmates. None of us was was in a mood, it was not an hour to socialize, it was an hour to sleep, so we did.
My flatmates... Not so new at the point i am writing this. I am very lucky to live in the "Mushroom" apartment, they are the best flatmates i could've imagined.
